14 best CDPs and alternatives for ecommerce in 2026
13 CDPs and Precisian scored on seven data criteria. None of the 13 documents versioned, customer-approved metrics. Activation is where CDPs win.
If you’re buying a CDP to activate customers, your shortlist depends on your stack: Hightouch or RudderStack if you already run a warehouse and a data team, Salesforce Data 360 or Adobe Real-Time CDP if you live in either suite, Segment if engineering instruments events. Scored on the seven data criteria below, the order starts with Precisian, RudderStack, Hightouch and Dito, and Precisian is not an activation CDP. As of October 26, 2026, none of the 13 CDPs documented versioned, customer-approved metric definitions on their official pages (Salesforce comes closest).
CDP (customer data platform): software that merges data about the same customer from many sources into one persistent profile and hands that profile to other systems, usually email, ads and support tools. How a CDP differs from a data lake, and which one comes first, is covered in composable CDP vs data lake.
Who wrote this ranking, and what criteria does it use?
Precisian wrote this ranking, and Precisian is on the list. The criteria were picked for Precisian’s buyer, and Precisian comes first on them. If your criteria are different, the order changes, and the section on when to pick a CDP tells you how.
The reader I have in mind runs a mid-size ecommerce business across its own store and marketplaces like Amazon, has no data team, wants to ask Claude or ChatGPT about revenue, and doesn’t trust the number it has. For that reader, seven criteria:
- C1 · Per-client data isolation. Does each client’s data live in a separate environment?
- C2 · Versioned metric definitions. Are “revenue,” “order” and “ROAS” written down, versioned and approved by the client somewhere?
- C3 · Access from the client’s own AI. Can you connect Claude or your own agent to the data over MCP or an API, without going through the vendor’s UI?
- C4 · Commerce and ad sources. Does it connect the store platform, the ERP and ad platforms (GA4, Meta, Google Ads, TikTok)?
- C5 · Who operates the data. Do vendor staff handle collection, integrations and modeling?
- C6 · Ownership and portability. If you leave, do you take the data?
- C7 · Pricing model. How it charges.
Scoring: from C1 to C6, “yes” counts 1, “partial” counts ½, and “no” or “not stated” count 0. C7 isn’t scored. “Not stated” counts zero because you can’t plan around what a vendor hasn’t written; it doesn’t claim the vendor can’t do it. Ties break on C4, then C5, then C6, then alphabetically. It’s the same scale as the other rankings on this blog. Every cell comes from the vendor’s own site, read on October 26, 2026, so you can redo the math from the table (the same logic as composable CDP vs data lake).
One caveat on C4. The cells were scored against the platforms Precisian’s clients run: VTEX, Magento, regional ERPs and the big ad networks. If you’re a Shopify-only brand, re-score that column; RudderStack and Insider One list Shopify, and Hightouch lists it as a destination.
I left activation quality out on purpose: journey speed, channel count, campaign builder. It’s the main reason to buy a CDP, so the profile section at the end handles it separately.
How do the 14 compare on C1 through C7?

C2 is the column that separates Precisian from the rest. As of October 26, 2026, none of the 13 CDPs on this list documented versioned, customer-approved business metric definitions on their official pages. The closest is Tableau Semantics inside Salesforce Data 360, described as “a governed place to create and manage metrics, dimensions, relationships, and goals” (Salesforce), with no versioning or client sign-off stated. The “partial” marks for Segment, mParticle, RudderStack and Hightouch in C2 govern event or audience schemas, not what counts as revenue. Why that matters once an AI is the reader is in metric hallucination.
What does each one do well, and who is it for?
1. Precisian
A managed data platform, not a CDP. It keeps a data lake isolated per client on Precisian’s infrastructure, a semantic layer with versioned, client-approved metrics, and access through MCP, an API and the client’s own BI. GA4, Meta Ads, Google Ads, TikTok Ads, VTEX and Magento come ready; Shopify and ERPs are additional connections. Precisian’s team handles collection, server-side tagging and consent. “The infrastructure is ours, the data is yours. You can access it at any time, and if you leave, you take all of it.” It doesn’t run campaigns and has no dashboard. Who it’s for: a multi-source business with no data team that wants AI answering on a number that reconciles.
2. RudderStack
A warehouse-native CDP. RudderStack says it “does not store customer data” and builds identity and audiences in your warehouse (RudderStack). Its official MCP server is in early access and aimed at running the pipeline (docs). The Free plan covers up to 250,000 events a month and Growth starts at $265 a month (pricing, read October 26, 2026). Who it’s for: a data engineering team with its own warehouse.
3. Hightouch
A composable CDP that reads from your warehouse and syncs to marketing destinations. Its official MCP server reads and writes, works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini Enterprise and Copilot, and carries no extra fee (Hightouch). A $0 Basic Reverse ETL plan allows up to 2 active syncs (pricing), and the company reports 803 paying customers (Hightouch). Sources are warehouses, not store platforms. Who it’s for: a team with a modeled warehouse and data engineers.
4. Dito
A Brazilian retail CRM and CDP, founded in 2008, with campaigns, WhatsApp, cashback and a store-associate app. Dito runs the integration itself (“our specialized team works on every step of the integration,” translated from Portuguese) and covers VTEX plus Brazilian ERPs such as Linx, Bling and Tiny (Dito). It exports to BigQuery; MCP isn’t mentioned. Who it’s for: a Brazilian chain with physical stores and ecommerce that wants CRM on a unified customer base.
5. Salesforce Data 360
The former Data Cloud, with Tableau Semantics, an official MCP server billed in Flex Credits, and published pricing: $500 per 100,000 Flex Credits and $240 per 1,000 profiles a year (Salesforce). Existing Salesforce customers can provision it with a capped allowance at no extra charge. The Adobe Commerce (Magento) connector is in beta. Who it’s for: a company already on Salesforce.
6. BlueConic
The only one of the 13 whose docs state full per-tenant isolation as the default: “Each tenant is fully isolated” (BlueConic). It has an official read-only MCP server listed in Claude’s connector directory (BlueConic), interactive experiences, and messaging through Blueshift, which it says it is acquiring. Who it’s for: a B2C brand that wants zero-party data and messaging from one vendor.
7. Insider One
An engagement platform with a CDP, which states 2,000+ customers (Insider One). It sends email, WhatsApp, push, SMS and RCS, has a documented VTEX connector, and offers an official MCP server that queries analytics and drafts campaigns but can’t access the database directly (Academy). Pricing by quote. Who it’s for: a mid-to-large retailer with a CRM team that wants the CDP wired to multichannel execution.
8. Adobe Real-Time CDP
A CDP on Adobe Experience Platform, with independent sandboxes, native Adobe Commerce integration (Experience League) and an official MCP server in public beta, read-only and allowlisted (Experience League). Licensed per profile; price not published. Who it’s for: a team already on Adobe Analytics, Journey Optimizer or Target.
9. Databricks CustomerLake
An agentic CDP announced June 16, 2026, running inside the customer’s Databricks workspace under Unity Catalog (Databricks). The post names HP among customers and, as of an October 20, 2026 update, says the product is in beta. Consumption pricing, no rate card. Who it’s for: a company that already centralizes data in Databricks.
10. Segment (Twilio)
The reference CDP for event collection, which says it offers 550+ destinations (Twilio). It bills by monthly tracked users, by quote (Twilio). No official Segment MCP server turned up in Twilio’s docs. Who it’s for: a digital company whose engineers want to instrument events once and send them everywhere.
11. Tealium
Client- and server-side collection, real-time activation, and 850+ enterprise customers (Tealium). A Private Cloud option offers single-tenant isolation; its official MCP server edits configuration and doesn’t query customer data (docs). Who it’s for: a regulated enterprise in healthcare, finance or telecom.
12. Zeotap
A European enterprise CDP that, since August 5, 2026, runs as a Native App inside the customer’s own Snowflake account (Zeotap), with 250+ destinations. No official MCP server found. Who it’s for: an enterprise on Snowflake that wants identity and activation without moving data.
13. mParticle
An enterprise CDP, now branded “mParticle by Rokt,” with real-time identity and data residency in regional pods (US1, US2, EU1, AU1) (docs). No official MCP server found; pricing by request. Who it’s for: an enterprise brand with an app and high-volume ecommerce.
14. CleverTap
Mobile-first engagement (push, in-app, WhatsApp, RCS) with an MCP server in private beta (docs). It publishes its entry price: Core from $85 a month, billed by MAU or data points, with a 30-day trial (CleverTap). Who it’s for: a brand whose main channel is its app.
When should you pick a CDP over Precisian?
When the job is activation. Behavior-triggered journeys (abandoned cart, replenishment on the right day), SMS and email to segments, a Meta custom audience that updates as shoppers browse, app push: all of that is CDP work, and Precisian does none of it. It sends no messages, builds no journeys and has no dashboard. There’s no $0 plan or self-serve signup either, so if you want to try something on your own this afternoon, start with Hightouch or RudderStack.
Precisian’s ready-made store connectors are VTEX and Magento. A US brand on Shopify and Amazon gets those as additional connections, and a vendor with native Shopify coverage may fit better.
This ranking’s criteria measure the data foundation and AI access. They don’t measure activation. Re-rank by execution and Precisian drops off the list.
Which one should each profile choose?
Warehouse plus data team: Hightouch to activate, RudderStack to collect events; Databricks CustomerLake or Zeotap if your warehouse is Databricks or Snowflake.
Already on Salesforce or Adobe: the in-house CDP, Data 360 or Real-Time CDP. Suite integration outweighs any column in the table.
Engineering-led event tracking: Segment.
App-first brand: CleverTap; mParticle at enterprise volume.
Regulated enterprise: Tealium.
Many sources, no data team, and “how much did we actually sell?” still unanswered: that’s a foundation problem, not an activation one, and that’s where Precisian fits. If your concern is isolation when an agent queries the data, read per-tenant isolation for MCP. A CDP and Precisian can run side by side: the CDP sends, Precisian keeps what it sent alongside ad spend, orders and refunds.
What doesn’t this ranking cover?
I didn’t test any of the 14 in a live account; everything comes from what each vendor publishes. It has no enterprise pricing, which none of the 13 publishes in full. It doesn’t grade identity-resolution quality and leaves out Klaviyo, Bloomreach and Amperity. Founding dates, headquarters and funding that only appeared in press coverage were left out. The cost of building the foundation yourself is in build vs. buy a data lake.
If your CDP fires on time and nobody can still say how much a campaign sold, the first step is measuring the gap between what the ad platforms report and what your books show. What Precisian includes to close that gap, and how it charges, is on the pricing page, with no contract commitment to look.
